Laser Hair Loss Treatment – A Viable Solution?

Thinking about trying a laser hair loss treatment plan? If so, here are a few facts that might help you make a decision or at least give you a more informed idea of what this latest solution to hair loss is all about.

Because so many hair loss remedies have been found to be mere snake-oil-type treatments, most intelligent people shy away from even considering them. With the exception of medically proven answers such as hair transplants and the drugs Propecia and Rogaine, not much has come down the pipeline in the way of truly treating the problem. But recently, a new possibility, laser hair loss treatment, brings renewed hope to those suffering from thinning locks.

Laser hair loss treatment involves bathing the scalp in low levels of this light with the frequency and intensity determined by the administrator. The laser bombards energy directly to the cells, purportedly enabling them to revitalize hair growth. This treatment is sometimes called “low-level laser” or “cold laser” therapy. Long used in Europe, the therapy traditionally consists of clients going to a salon or clinic three or four times a month for six to 12 months. “Use-at-home” devices are the most recent development of laser hair loss treatment.

Pro and Cons of Laser Hair Loss Treatment

The International Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology found positive findings in one study of an “at-home” laser hair loss treatment. Hair counts and hair strength increased in both men and women (36 users total) who used something called the “HairMax LaserComb.” Developed in Australia, this laser hair loss treatment device is now manufactured in the U.S. and is designed for home use.

However, one prominent East Coast hair loss expert, Dr. Greg Pistone, doesn’t put much stock in laser hair loss treatment. Proclaiming the effects “minimal,” Dr. Pistone opines the device’s results do not come anywhere near the success of hair transplants.

One thing no one seems to argue, however, is that laser hair loss treatment does do some good things for your hair such as enhancing overall health and improving manageability. The conclusion, therefore, might be to ask yourself if you’re willing to spend money on a product that may or may not help hair loss, but does, indeed, help the hair you still have. Like so many things, laser hair loss treatment may be one more therapy with validity yet to be seen.
