Blue Lizard Sunscreen for Real UV Protection
Many sunscreens on the market today purport to protect skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, but do they actually do the job? According to recent lawsuits against some of the biggest names on the market, no. One, Blue Lizard sunscreen, has dedicated its resources toward developing products that promote the healthiness of skin and the reduction of skin cancer. Never promoting “natural” tanning, Blue Lizard advocates always using its sunscreen and a self-tanning product before any kind of sun exposure.
Does a High SPF Mean More Protection?
People have been misled into believing that a larger SPF (sun protection factor) on a skin product equates into better protection from the sun. This, however, is untrue. Blue Lizard sunscreen provides protection of more than 30 times what your skin naturally provides against UVB rays. This company follows the Australian standards of health regarding sunscreen products, which are much more stringent than those of the United States’ Food and Drug Administration, hence the “Australian” as part of the product name – Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen. According to these Australian standards, an SPF of 30 is adequate and that government only allows sunscreens to claim that much on sunscreen product labeling.
It’s All About the Zinc Oxide
The difference between Blue Lizard and other sunscreens lies in its unique formulation of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These and other chemical-free ingredients and form a protective barrier that other sunscreens don’t that is better at blending onto skin easier and staying on it longer. Blue Lizard sunscreen reflects sunlight, preventing its harmful UV rays from penetrating the lower layers of skin causing permanent damage. The cheaper-made chemical absorbers in competitor’s brands – even those with higher SPFs – can actually allow UV rays to penetrate the skin, even getting into the bloodstream in some cases.
And don’t be led astray by other products that advertise having zinc oxide as a primary ingredient. Most only contain a dismal one or two percent. Doctors of dermatology advise against anything less than five percent zinc oxide in a sunscreen product to truly add protection. Blue Lizard sunscreen products contain, depending on the product, either six or 10 percent.
Serious Waterproofing
Another quality that puts Blue Lizard sunscreen ahead of the game lies in its water-resistance characteristic. Most sunscreens adhere to the comparatively lenient FDA water-testing standards of the product remaining on the body for one hour, 10 minutes in unmoving water. Australia requires products to pass its much-stricter water-resistance testing by remaining on the body for three times that long – 240 minutes – before allowing the word, “waterproof” on sunscreen labels. And although Blue Lizard is made in America, it follows the much stricter Australian standards in order to better protect human skin from the sun’s harmful effects.
