What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a popular treatment which lessens the appearance of fine lines and unusual areas of pigmentation, tightens skin, and gives skin a youthful glow. This treatment is like your dermatologist sandblasting your skin. Tiny mineral crystals are jet sprayed across the skin and the debris is vacuumed off. The treatments are done in a doctors office or salon and start at around $200 each. Multiple treatments over a period of time are required to maintain the effects of the treatments.

Skin treated with microdermabrasion is toned, smooth, polished, buffed. There is thickening of the inner skin layer, and even a small increase in collagen fibers as the outer skin layer becomes quite thin, which leads to a thickening of the dermal layer. With the dermal thickening, there is a diminishemnt of fine lines and the skin tightens up. Skin tone and color evens as areas of uneven pigmentation are removed.

Microdermabraded skin looks healthier because the epidermis, which reflects light, is gone, leaving the skin with a youthful glow.
